We start our tour in the old town of Rabat, a place that claims the origins of Maltese Christianity. We will explore the story of the Romans in Malta and the visit of St. Paul in 60 AD after shipwrecking on the islands, as we make our way through the streets of a truly lively, typical Maltese town.
The walking tour proceeds to the medieval fortified city of Mdina, which is just a stone’s throw away from Rabat. The city's old Baroque buildings, Cathedral and magnificent bastion walls dominate the rural skyline. Mdina, once the capital of Malta until the modern city of Valletta was built in 1566 has had many names including Melite (Roman occupation), Medina (Arabic occupation), Citta Notabile (Knights of St. John) and Citta Vecchia (after Valletta was built). Today it is also referred to as the Silent City since it inspires tranquillity at any time of the day or night. The only way to really experience and enjoy this city is on foot, explore the quaint alleys, narrow streets, ancient buildings and magnificent far reaching views from the high bastion walls.
The last stop will be at one Malta’s finest wineries located at the foot of Mdina’s slopes, located in the agricultural heartland. This boutique winery - a pioneer in producing premium wines made exclusively from locally grown grapes. You will be given a tour of the estate, including the fermentation hall and underground cellar, before enjoying a guided wine tasting on the panoramic terrace overlooking the vineyards. As part of the experience, you will also be served a light lunch platter which includes a variety of local and foreign cheese and cold cuts, ftira (a type of flatbread), tomato paste, dry apricots, walnuts, cherry tomatoes and grapes. This is truly authentic and enjoyable activity.
This tour starts at 0830hrs and is available from Monday to Friday, except on Public/National Holidays.
